We treat weekend eating like it’s a personality trait. Heck 95% of our Tinder bios say “I love brunch, tacos, and wine”. Who doesn’t? It feels good to live this way until…you start feeling lethargic, guilty, and not like yourself anymore.
I want to share my advice on how to get fit and be healthy while still including brunch with your girls.
In short, one serving of stuffed french toast and a mimosa is not going to effect much of anything. But most busy women I talk to know it’s so much more than that.
Thursday happy hour.
Friday date night.
Saturday your friends 30th birthday party.
Sunday brunch and pizza.
Those add up to more than half the week! And that’s why it’s so hard for us to make changes to our health, it’s not just one day, it’s several.
Of course these things are fun and social, but they give you major food comas, digestion issues, and they may be holding you back from your fitness goals.
Here are 5 easy changes to your brunch:
Low Calorie Drinks
Alcohol calories add up FAST (there’s 7 calories for every 1 gram! Compare this to carbs, which have 4 calories for every 1 gram).
Pick drinks that limit added sugars and calories as much as possible. Keep in mind that each drink will probably have 100+ calories in it, I recommend sticking to 1-2 drinks and sipping water in between!
- Champagne with a splash of OJ
- Bellini
- Skinny Margarita (swap the sugary mixer with club soda and several limes)
- Screwdriver (Vodka with a splash of OJ)
Veggies and Protein First
For the entree, try to pick something that is high in protein and vegetables. This will help you not overindulge and feel bloating and tired the rest of the day!
Think omelets, breakfast tacos, or power bowls (kind of like a morning salad!).
Share a Treat
If you are a sweets person like me, you know it can be hard to resist getting that chocolate chip pancake.
If I am craving something sweet that morning, still order veggies and proteins, but share a treat with someone!
Fill up on your meal first, then have a pancake for dessert. It’s the best of both worlds.
Workout Before
I know after a mimosa I’m sure as heck not going to the gym. Brunch is the perfect setting to do nothing the rest of the day.
Make it a point to get your workout in before! You’ll feel amazing and be so proud you got it done!
Make Your Other Meals
After brunching is all said and done, cook the rest of your meals for the day.
Most likely brunch will hold you over until dinner. Instead of going out again or ordering pizza, take the time to make yourself a nice home cooked meal.
Try out a new recipe, cook with your spouse, or just spend some time listening to an audio book while you whip up your favorite salad recipe!
Cooking at home is the easiest way to have control over what you are eating. Fill your plate with protein and veggies and enjoy the rest of your relaxing evening before the busy week starts!
Best,
